You can sync Arlo camera with your home Wi-Fi network and work independently to give you a seamless surveillance experience. However, when it comes to installing your Arlo camera outdoors or at a distance outside your network coverage area, you’ll need an Arlo Base Station.
Using an Arlo base station will help you record and store videos, and photos locally, and also, increase the range within which you can install your camera. Now, using a base station with your Arlo camera will require you to sync them. This blog will help you with information on how to sync the Arlo camera with the base station at your home.
Arlo Camera Sync Process
You can sync an Arlo camera easily using the Arlo smartphone app. If you are planning to connect an add-on camera to your account, you’ll need to follow the manual sync process. Here are some steps to sync your Arlo camera to the SmartHub or Base Station:
Sync Arlo Pro 3, Pro 4, and Arlo Ultra
- Release your Arlo camera from the main camera housing. Press the button on the base, the one you see on the charging port underneath the camera.
- You’ll hear a clicking sound emanate and the camera will slide out partially of the housing.
- Press the Sync button on the top of the base station for about 2 seconds and release it. You’ll see the Sync Status LED blink in green.
- Now, pull out the camera and press the Sync button you see at the bottom. Once you do that, the LED on the front will blink in blue.
- Wait for some time till the Arlo camera and SmartHub finish syncing. The blue LED on the base stations and Arlo camera blink slowly during the process. The blinking will convert to rapid blinking once the Arlo camera sync process is over.
- Once the sync process is complete, you can check the live stream quality of your camera in the Arlo app. You can also log in to the Arlo account using my.arlo.com and see if the camera has synced.
Arlo camera does not sync- What to do?
When you are setting up your Arlo Wire-free cameras, they may fail to sync
with the base station. This is when you will need to relook at the system requirements. Below are some pointers to keep in mind:
- You’ll need to ensure that the camera you are using is compatible with the SmartHub or Base Station.
- Not all cameras would work with base stations and some of them can have an option to connect directly to a WiFi router.
Now, here are some checks you can perform to ensure your Arlo camera is synced successfully:
Check if the base station is powered on and working.
To ensure you have synced your Arlo camera, you must add a base station to your Arlo system even before you start with the process. If you haven’t yet, here are some steps you can follow:
- Launch the Arlo Secure App on your smartphone and tap on the Add New Device button.
- Now, tap on Base Station/Hub option and follow the instructions in the app to proceed.
You can now check the status of your base station. Here are some steps you can follow:
- Launch the Arlo Secure App or log into your Arlo account using my.arlo.com.
- Tap on the Settings button and then click on the My Devices button.
- Select your SmartHub or Base Station from the screen and the Settings page will show you the status.
Check if the camera battery is charged and if the level is not too low.
Low battery levels can prevent your camera from syncing it to the Base Station. Check the battery status on the camera. If the camera LED is blinking in amber, it indicates that the battery level is low. Charge the battery for about 30 minutes and try the Arlo camera sync process again. You can follow the same steps as discussed in the previous section to do so.
RESET Arlo cameras
If the Arlo camera won’t sync even after you have tried all possible troubleshooting steps, you can reset it to factory settings. Here are some steps you can follow:
- Locate the Sync button on your camera. Based on the model you are using, it might be located below the outer housing or on the top of the camera.
- Press and hold the same for about 15 seconds. You will see the camera LED blink in blue. This is when you should release the button and wait for the camera to reboot.
The complete process may take about 15-45 seconds to complete. Once the reset process is complete, you can repeat these steps(Arlo camera sync) to begin.
