Proceeding with the Arlo VMC2-30 Camera Setup
To start with your Arlo camera setup process, you’ll first need the Arlo app downloaded and installed on your smartphone. You can download and install the same using the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store. Open the same on your smartphone and get the same installed. If you already use the Arlo app, make sure you’re using the latest version. To confirm if an update is available, go to the app store or Play Store and look for the latest update.
Once downloaded, you can add your Arlo VMC2-30 camera to an Arlo account. You can also pair a camera to an optional Arlo SmartHub or BaseStation.
Setup Arlo VMC2-30 Camera
- Launch the Arlo app on your smartphone and connect to the WiFi network.
- Create an Arlo account on the app. You can also head to my.arlo.com web portal to create one.
- Once you are logged in to the Arlo account on the app, select the Add Device option on your camera and add the same to the account.
Charging your camera
If you check the camera packaging, you’ll find a USB-charging cable in the box. This cable can be used for indoor charging. You’ll also find a battery on your camera that can’t be removed.
- To begin charging your camera, open the cover on the micro-USB port and connect the charging cable.
- Connect the other end of the charging cable to a USB charging adapter connected to a power source. The battery will now charge automatically and the LED lights will flash solid blue upon full charge.
Once that happens, you can press the Sync button on the bottom of the camera to wake it up and install the same. Press and hold the same for about 2 seconds. The camera will wake up and the LED will flash blue for two minutes. You can follow the instructions in the Arlo app to add your camera to the Arlo account.
If even after pressing the button, the LED on the camera doesn’t flash, it indicates that the battery isn’t charged. You can recharge your camera and try pressing the Sync button again after some time.

Mounting your Arlo VMC2-30 Camera
- You can select a location for your camera with a clear field of view to optimize the recording. Make sure the location you choose has a strong WiFi signal. You can refer to the Arlo app to check the WiFi signal strength.
- Once the location is finalized, you can use a wall mount to fix your camera in place.
- Once the mount is fixed, you can fit the camera to adjust the camera angle.
Testing motion detection
Your Arlo camera can only work well as long as it has the right motion sensitivity setting. Here are some steps you can follow to conduct a motion detection test:
- Launch the Arlo app and tap on the “Settings” menu.
- Select the “My Devices” button and a list of the devices will appear.
- Select the Arlo VMC2-30 camera and tap on the “Device Utilities” button.
- Here, select the Motion Detection test option and move in front of the camera. If the camera detects motion successfully, the LED on the camera will blink amber.
- You can move the slider to adjust the motion sensitivity level as required. When you are satisfied with a particular setting, note it down so you can edit it in the rules.
- You can now edit the rules for the camera so it can enter the desired motion sensitivity level.
Camera Positioning
You can mount and aim your Arlo VMC2-30 camera in different ways so as to optimize the ability to detect motion in specific areas. The lower 2/3rd of the camera image is the motion-sensitive part. You can aim the camera such that any motion that you are looking to detect, appears in this part. You can also make use of the integrated Camera Positioning setting to position your camera-
- Launch the Arlo app and tap on the Settings button.
- Here, select the My Devices option and select the VMC2-30 camera from the list.
- Tap on the Device Utilities option and then head to Camera Positioning.
- Your Arlo VMC2-30 camera will now start streaming video. The signal strength bar will indicate the WiFi signal strength.
Arm your Arlo VMC2-30
When your Arlo camera is armed, it will do the job perfectly. You can control when your camera is armed using the camera features. You can choose to arm all devices simultaneously. Here are some steps you can follow-
